About the Company – Solarplexus 

Solarplexus is a UK-based clean tech startup founded at the University of Cambridge by Gates Scholar Anaïs Berkes, in collaboration with the Centre for Global Equality. The company supports solar PV electrification in remote communities—like those in Indonesia and Malawi—powering schools, clinics, and livelihoods. Solarplexus is now developing an AI-powered platform to help local communities design and manage solar microgrids—from installation and logistics to funding and maintenance—empowering energy independence at scale. 

 

About the Position 

As a Software Development Intern – AI Agents, you’ll help build a next-generation, AI-powered platform for solar access. You’ll work across the stack—from smart user interfaces to dynamic databases—and contribute to a real solution making clean energy more accessible, affordable, and locally owned. Your code will literally power up communities. 

 

Your Role & Responsibilities 

  • Design and develop a user-friendly, AI-guided app for solar system planning 

  • Build and automate databases with info on logistics, finance, and installation 

  • Contribute to both front-end UI and back-end infrastructure 

  • Help refine and integrate AI agents for personalized energy design support 

  • Collaborate with Cambridge-based advisors and field teams 

  • Support early user onboarding, feedback loops, and iterative design 

Job requirements

About You 

  • You are currently an Undergraduate or Graduate student in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field 

  • You bring at least 1 year of practical experience in software development 

  • You know your way around Python and are comfortable with full-stack thinking 

  • Experience with AI agents and database automation is a plus 

  • You’re independent, impact-driven, and eager to co-create scalable tech for good 

  • You communicate clearly and love working in remote, cross-cultural teams 

  • Fluent in English
