With growing recognition across climate and development networks, the organization is now preparing to scale its model into carbon markets and explore high-value applications, such as medical-grade biochar

 

About the Position 

As a Biochar Innovation & Carbon Removal Strategy Intern, you will contribute to the scale-up of Green-Up Gambia’s biochar production by supporting business development, carbon sequestration strategy, and funding proposals. Your role will directly inform Green Solutions’ positioning in carbon markets and sustainability frameworks, while helping map out its future as a leading nature-based solution provider. 

 

Your Role & Responsibilities 

  • Conduct research on carbon removal certifications and medical biochar standards 

  • Analyze biochar’s carbon sequestration potential based on international benchmarks 

  • Develop a scalability roadmap for biochar production in The Gambia 

  • Identify key stakeholders, partners, and regulatory entities 

  • Contribute to funding proposals, reports, and strategic concept notes 

  • Recommend ways to enhance production quality and sustainability practices 

  • Deliver a final presentation and report with strategic recommendations 

Job requirements

 

About You 

  • You are currently enrolled in or have recently completed a Master’s or PhD in Environmental Science, Bioengineering, Sustainability, Carbon Finance, Agricultural Sciences, Business Administration, Forestry, or Economics 

  • You have strong research and analytical skills, particularly in carbon markets and biochar applications 

  • Familiarity with sustainability standards, climate policy, or regenerative agriculture is highly valued 

  • You are self-driven, solution-oriented, and able to work independently 

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English 

  • Experience with climate innovation, impact assessment, or grassroots projects is a plus
