About the Company – rrreefs AG

rrreefs AG is a pioneering Swiss startup rebuilding coral reefs using 3D-printed modular structures that restore biodiversity, stabilize coastlines, and generate climate resilience. Bridging engineering, marine science, and sustainability, rrreefs delivers measurable ecological and socio-economic impact while offering companies a way to invest in ocean regeneration. Based in Zurich, their team of nine experts brings together a unique mix of research, design, and entrepreneurial firepower.

About the Position

As an Engineering Intern, you’ll support the technical development and refinement of rrreefs’ modular reef systems. Your work will involve analyzing oceanographic data, conducting hydrodynamic modeling, and optimizing reef structures for real-world marine conditions. Whether you're passionate about FEM simulations or wave energy dissipation, your contribution will directly support climate-positive, scalable restoration solutions

Your Role & Responsibilities

  • Analyze long-term oceanographic and wave data

  • Conduct value analyses of hydrodynamic forces on reef structures

  • Model wave transformations and sediment interactions

  • Contribute to material simulations using FEM tools

  • Help refine reef design, placement, and construction criteria

  • Co-develop underwater construction tools and methods for modular reef installation

  • Collaborate with marine scientists, designers, and innovators

Job requirements

About You

  • You are currently studying or have recently completed a program (Bachelor, Master, MBA, or other) with a strong technical foundation

  • You have practical experience or coursework in engineering, marine engineering, oceanography, or related technical fields

  • You’re confident using tools like Python or other programming languages for data processing

  • Familiarity with FEM modeling, hydrodynamics, or material behavior analysis is a big plus

  • You enjoy working across disciplines, love data and design, and want to build something with purpose

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); other languages are welcome

  • Most importantly, you're motivated by impact, climate action, and meaningful marine innovation

Your Benefits

  • Join a passionate, international team restoring coral reefs with science and technology

  • Gain experience with real-world marine engineering projects and technical modeling

  • Work at the intersection of design, biology, climate science, and systems thinking

  • Be part of a mission-driven startup making waves in the ocean and startup world

  • Mentorship and guidance from experts in science, design, and impact entrepreneurship

  • Participation in the InTent Internship Kick-Off (mid-July) and the Geneva Summit (end of September)

  • Join a global community of like-minded students who are passionate about making a real difference—challenging the status quo to create a more sustainable future for our planet and society
